About Us

We are passionate in our belief that communication is a fundamental human right. Our quest is to ensure that more people have the opportunity to exercise this rightfully.

Ability Central Philanthropy, formerly known as the Disability Communications Fund (DCF), has been making grants since 2010. We continue to award grants to community-based nonprofit or educational organizations in California that establish projects and programs designed to benefit the communication needs of Californians of all ages with disabilities.

At the core of our mission, we acknowledge the diversity and unique capabilities of all people. We encourage the inclusion of people with disabilities in the design and execution of funded projects and within the organizations that we fund.

Ability Central is not only an ally and funder but also an educator, convener, and resource hub striving to improve communication and information access for people with disabilities.

We regularly incorporate valuable feedback from our community on how to best support, collaborate, and improve our efforts.

Diversity

We believe that the solution to the problems we hope to address through our grantmaking can be found by affirming our similarities, as well as by finding value in our differences.

Inclusion

We believe every person’s voice adds value, and we strive to create balance through trust-building in the face of power differences.
